In order to be accepted into this program, you must have completed the following required classes:.
Intermediate Microeconomic and Macroeconomic Theory. Both courses should be calculus based.
The application fee ($70.00). (Anyone applying for a second program in the same year will be automatically charged half that rate).
The M.S. program in Applied Economics typically has 5-10 funded slots in a given year, with the exact amount varying from year to year. Applications to be considered for funding are due January 15.
Applications submitted between January 15 and March 15 will be considered for admission only. The application site will close for the 2024-25 school year on March 15th.
Funding: Please note that although the program waives 70% of tuition, students are responsible for 30% of tuition fees. Students who work as research and teaching assistants receive additional funding in the form of a monthly stipend.

During the first year in the Applied Economics program, students take a rigorous set of courses in microeconomic theory, macroeconomic theory, and econometrics. Students may also take courses in supporting areas, such as mathematics and statistics.
All students in the M.S. in Applied Economics program are expected to complete an original research project culminating in a thesis defense in the second year of the program.
Financial assistance is an integral component of our graduate program. The primary form of financial assistance is a graduate assistantship in the form of a stipend and partial tuition waiver. Graduate assistantships are awarded on a competitive basis with continuance dependent upon satisfactory progress toward degree requirements and performance of assigned duties.

The Agricultural Economics offers a degree program leading to the Master of Science in Agriculture with a concentration in Agricultural Economics. This program stresses thorough mastery of advanced economic theory, methods of quantitative analysis, and the applications of these methods to the problems of agriculture. The broad program of economic research conducted by the department affords a wide selection of areas from which the student may choose a specific problem for research.
M.S. graduates are qualified to enter a wide variety of careers in both the public and private sectors. Recent graduates are employed by agribusiness firms, federal and state agencies, interest groups, and non-governmental organizations. M.S. graduates are also qualified to enter Ph.D. programs in Agricultural or Applied Economics.
M.S. students must successfully complete all 26 hours of required coursework in the program of study. In addition, students must complete at least 6 hours of thesis research credit. The thesis is completed under the supervision of the student graduate committee.
M.S. students must begin graduate coursework in the fall semester thus, the student must submit application materials prior to July 1. However, graduate research assistantship decisions are usually made in March, and admission to the program must be obtained before an assistantship may be granted. Students are encouraged to no later than February.
