The Master's Degree in Nutrition and Health Sciences-Professional Studies in Dietetics (PSD) Specialization is a professional master's degree program, with a competency-based curriculum, offered through the Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences. The program provides a total of 45 semester credit hours of didactic and supervised experiential learning during a 16-month period and prepares graduates for entry-level positions in the dietetic profession by providing didactic and supervised experiential learning in management, community nutrition, and medical nutrition therapy. The program culminates in a graduate degree and a verification statement leading to the ability to sit for the Commission on Dietetic Registration credentialing exam for registered dietitian nutritionists.

In addition to becoming employed as a registered dietitian nutritionist, graduates are eligible for active membership in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and will be eligible to obtain the Licensed Medical Nutrition Therapist credential in the state of Nebraska and licensure or certification in all states regulating the practice of dietetics.

The program does not have a distance education component. Arrangements for preceptors and supervised experiential learning sites are established and maintained by the program.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Master’s Degree in Nutrition and Health Sciences-Professional Studies in Dietetics Specialization has been granted accreditation status by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, as a demonstration program under the Future Education Model Accreditation standards. ACEND is the only accrediting agency for dietetics education recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE).

The Dietitian Education Program is a graduate-level Coordinated Program in Dietetics. The UAB Coordinated Program in Dietetics - Dietitian Education Program's mission is to prepare graduates who are highly trained entry-level Registered Dietitian Nutritionists through community partnerships, the translation of research, and acquisition of knowledge, skills, and experiences to improve the lifestyle wellness of Birmingham, the state, and beyond.

To become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), you will also need to complete Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) courses and a Dietetic Internship (DI) in addition to completion of the MS Program. The DPD courses and DI are also offered at UW-Stout.

Note to prospective students: As of 2024, the Commission on Dietetic Registration has changed the requirement from a bachelor degree to a master degree in order to be eligible to take the CDR credentialing exam for Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.

Designed for working adults, our 100% online program will prepare you with the knowledge, skills and competency in professional and ethical behaviors to successfully practice as an RDN. And you'll enhance your work and volunteer experience while completing the degree. Upon completion of the M.S.
