The MFA in design technology is a professional training program committed to preparing imaginative and inventive artists and technicians for careers in theater and the entertainment industry.

With the goal to develop a resourceful and flexible student with a broad and diverse portfolio, the department requires that each student develop a primary focus in a selected area of design technology: scenic design, lighting design, costume design, or technical direction. Elective courses, in entertainment engineering, interior design, architecture, film, 3-D imaging and animation, provide the student designer with increased depth, perspective and experience.

Each student participates in a series of production projects specifically selected to strengthen the imagination and technique of the student, emphasizing skills in drafting, research, history, interpretation, concept development and production collaboration. The program also shares unique connections to the entertainment industry and internship opportunities complement the work done within the department.

The MFA Performance Program admits a new class of 10 actors every three years. The program is a comprehensive, inter-disciplinary professional actor training program, designed to prepare the actor for a variety of styles and genres of performance work including: contemporary and modern realism, Shakespeare and other classical material, and acting for the camera.

In the first year of the program, students receive foundation training in action, subtext, environment, sense memory, emotional preparation, ensemble building, characterization, language, and script analysis.

MFA Performance Candidates enroll in a 3-credit graduate seminar course in spring semester of the first two years, which explores essential elements of theater literature, history, and criticism in a collaborative setting.

Stage managers are the master collaborators and communicators. Their real talents lie in nurturing the creative process, coordinating diverse artistic personalities and maintaining positive energy. Organized, responsible, tactful, adaptable, and graceful under pressure, they are the backbone of any production. Stage managers, considered jacks of all trades, are understanding and sensitive to the processes of their fellow collaborators.

The curriculum in stage management reinforces the importance of a broad base of knowledge by requiring studios in directing, technical direction, scenery, costumes, and or lighting. Other aspects of management are also covered, including production management, company management, and front-of-house administration.

The College of Fine Arts provides an academic experience that heightens awareness of the physical, intellectual, and cultural world while preparing students for professional employment and or post-graduate study in their artistic area.

The Master of Fine Arts degree is a comprehensive three-year program designed to guide Candidates toward expertise in studio art and design practices, aesthetics, and scholarly inquiry while expanding proficiency in art history, criticism, and theory. In addition, Candidates have opportunities to acquire experience in classroom instruction and pedagogy, professional development, and gallery practices.

An applicant may defer admission to an earlier later semester. Applications are valid for one year. One deferral is allowed per application.

The Musicology program seeks an interdisciplinary approach to the study of music in culture.

Students enrolled in this program are expected to intellectually engage in richly contextualized music scholarship and to produce original work. This program welcomes a variety of scholarly projects and pursuits. Common approaches to the study of music in culture include oral history, ethnography, archival research, historiography, music analysis, reception studies, aesthetics and criticism, gender and sexuality studies, discourse analysis, and sound and performance studies.

While the degree is self-standing, this program provides an optimal foundation for enrollment in UNM doctoral programs, including but not limited to: Art History, American Studies, Anthropology, and Latin American and Iberian Studies.

Mr. Roland is from New York City, where he began dancing at a young age and trained with the youth theatre company, TADA. He attended the High School of Performing Arts, now called Fiorello H. LaGuardia, while studying on scholarship at The Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, The Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance, and The School of American Ballet. Mr. Roland has worked with Les Ballet Grandiva touring extensively in Japan, as well as Pennsylvania Ballet, Boulder Ballet, David Taylor Dance Theatre, and The Longmont Dance Theatre, touring and dancing in many classical and neo-classical roles. In 2002, he relocated to Milan, Italy to train, perform, and model, where he taught master classes in various techniques all over the country.

The study will focus on social media use and subjective happiness of young adults and adolescents. Lastly, he is looking forward to having academic and cultural exchange between East Carolina University and Pukyoung National University.

The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is offered with an emphasis in one the following areas:.

60 credits are required for graduation, including a minimum of 26 hours in your major area, nine hours of art history, 16 hours of studio electives and nine hours of general electives. Students normally spend three years earning the degree and full-time enrollment is required.
