This will be a generalist masters in kinesiology. Students may choose to specialize their course content in areas specific to sports medicine, biomechanics, exercise physiology or physical activity. The projected enrollment of this program is 30 full-time students. This program requires a minimum of graduate credits, including at least 6 thesis credits.

The Arkansas State University Masters in Exercise Science program is designed to prepare students for a variety of jobs in health, wellness, and the clinical settings through course work, practical experiences, and research opportunities. Graduates of the program will be prepared to take certification exams offered through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Obtaining this degree along with nationally recognized certifications will prepare individuals to work and manage commercial and corporate wellness facilities as well as work in the clinical settings.
Students wishing to pursue a graduate degree must have graduated from an accredited four year institution with the appropriate undergraduate background in the field of proposed academic emphasis. For a Master of Science degree in Exercise Science, typically the appropriate preparation will be an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science (or equivalent), a minimum of 18 semester hours of appropriate course work is required. Each applicant will be individually evaluated by the department’s Graduate Program Coordinator as to what may be appropriate for them. The MA in Sport Administration is a 36-hour program that provides opportunities for students to investigate in-depth concepts related to leading physical activity programs.

Students must have a minimum grade of C in all graduate program courses.
Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 for all graduate courses.
Students receiving two failing grades ( D, F, WF, or U ) will be dismissed from the program. A grade of C (although it may be credit toward a degree) equals one deficiency point. A grade of D, WF, F, or U (none of which will be credited toward a degree) equals two deficiency points.
If dismissed from the program, the student must wait a minimum of one calendar year and obtain approval from the academic department before applying for readmission. The academic program reserves the right to place specific conditions and contingencies on any offer of readmission. Readmission is not guaranteed, and prior academic performance and conduct in the program will be considered.
This credit must be documented in the form of an official transcript at the time of admission. Transfer credit will be evaluated after admission, by the academic department. To be eligible, credit must be no than seven years old at the time of admission unless otherwise approved by the program.

The aim of the Exercise Science program of study is to prepare well-rounded graduates that demonstrate expertise in exercise physiology and exercise testing and prescription for future careers in academia, sports, healthcare, and rehabilitation.
During the first two years (freshman and sophomore), students take courses from the areas of English, mathematics, history and social, physical, and biological sciences.
During the last two years (junior and senior), students take courses predominately in the area of exercise science (e.g. kinesiology, biomechanics, exercise physiology, etc.). During the last two years students are involved in many laboratory-related classes (e.g. exercise prescription, instrumentation, and practicum I). Additionally, during a student’s last semester, he/she is required to complete a supervised internship (e.g. practicum II & III) at a site external, typically, to Southern Arkansas University (e.g. wellness clinic, sports program, exercise testing laboratory, or cardiac or pulmonary rehabilitation program).
