Ivy League Graduate Programs in Information Technology

Princeton University graduate students are involved in many of the activities at CITP. They often work with faculty, visiting fellows, and others at the center. CITP’s interdisciplinary tech policy clinic gives the research community the opportunity to contribute to vital policy discussions concerning the role of digital technologies in our society. They engage directly with policy makers to develop state-of-the-art research and we translate that research into practical proposals that advance the public interest. In keeping with Princeton’s commitment to service, the clinic provides nonpartisan research, analysis, and commentary to policy makers, industry participants, journalists, and the public. There is a long tradition of educating public-spirited lawyers through clinical programs; we are building a similar program for the next generation of public-spirited technologists.

Information Technology (IT) at Yale provides computing and communications infrastructure, services, support, and innovation for Yale’s instructional, research, public service, and administrative programs.

HSDM Information Technology (IT) works closely with Harvard Medical School Information Technology (HMS IT) and Harvard University Information Technology (HUIT) to support the academic, research, administrative and Harvard Dental Center (HDC) IT needs at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine including network services, data center operations, desktop and administrative applications, multi-media technology, telecommunications, research computing and classroom technology.

The Master of Computer and Information Technology (MCIT) program at the University of Pennsylvania is for talented students without any prior computer science experience who can start a highly successful career in computing and technology. These students often land highly sought-after interdisciplinary roles or even purely technical software development positions.

The 30-credit MCIT program was founded on the idea that individuals with undergraduate degrees in a variety of other professions might achieve great success in their careers by taking advanced computer science courses. The careers of the graduates today provide compelling evidence for this viewpoint. Graduates of MCIT programs may also choose to pursue additional advanced studies in computer science inside the academic setting. 

Students majoring in Master of Science in Engineering in Computer & Information (CIS/MSE) at MCIT may apply to continue in the program. In order to pursue this dual degree option, students must meet certain prerequisites, including having completed most of the MCIT requirements, earning a high mark in at least one CIS elective, and having a minimum GPA.

Offered by the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute, the two-year MS in Information Systems immerses students in the core technical, human and business factors at the convergence of information and technology. Students receive training in entrepreneurship and innovation management and engage in extensive R D projects with tech companies in New York City.

These courses focus on preparing you for innovation within major tech companies or entrepreneurship within startup ventures.

The Connective Media concentration focuses on the technology driving digital media, as well as the psychological, social and business forces at play in today connected media environment. Students are prepared to go into industry for software engineering development, product development and user experience research, and data science at the convergence of communication, information, and media. Graduates are technologists with deep expertise in the human, social, and media aspects of technology.

The Health Tech concentration emphasizes the technical and entrepreneurial skills needed to create new digital technologies for patients, clinicians and communities. Students are trained to create better healthcare information systems, mobile healthcare applications, and medical devices for medical monitoring. Graduates are prepared for leadership roles in mobile consumer health startups, insurance, hospital systems, 360-degree medical providers, health IT companies, healthcare cloud computing and data analytics companies, and foundations and nonprofits.

The Urban Tech concentration emphasizes the integration of Urban Design, Architecture and Computer Science to build smarter interconnected cities. Students are trained to use technology to improve mobility and transportation, sustainable urban development, and urban systems. Graduates are prepared for leadership roles in mobile consumer urban tech startups, real estate, utilities, construction, and NGOs.

Connective Medi Is open to ambitious students who have a fascination with people-driven technologies and a strong entrepreneurial spirit. While formal academic backgrounds in science or engineering are preferred, they are not required. We will take into account personal or professional experience in mathematics, economics, physical sciences, or other quantitative disciplines. Essentially, your application should demonstrate somehow that you will be able to successfully complete the computer science component of the curriculum, as well as your interest in the human and social aspects of it.

And an abiding passion for the future of our cities. A formal academic background in computer science or engineering is not required, but ideal candidates will have strong quantitative skills and or programming experience with an interest in the urban environment. We are looking for tech-savvy urban planners, architects and policy experts and statisticians, engineers and computer scientists who are passionate applications in urban settings.

Mastery of core technical knowledge in the key areas of machine learning, human-computer interaction and design, and algorithms and software system development. Assessment: Successful completion of the core technical courses.

Mastery of core domain concepts in an industry-focused concentration area (connective media, health tech, or urban tech). Assessment: Successful completion of the core concentration courses and associated projects.

Ability to apply concepts from the entrepreneurial process and use them to translate technical ideas into products that impact society. Assessment: Successful completion of optional business-related courses as well as (where appropriate) evaluation of a business plan developed in conjunction with the second-year Studio project.

MS in Information and Knowledge Strategy program is offered at Columbia University. The multidisciplinary curriculum, which is based in the field of knowledge management gives students practical skills in project management and executive leadership along with a solid grounding in organizational psychology, information science, and change management. This enables them to make a significant impact in their current organization or to pursue a career change.

It is a 36-credit program. The curriculum is adaptable, intended for working professionals who are changing careers, and offers a large number of elective courses from which students can choose to specialize in various graduate programs offered by Columbia University.

They can customize their Ivy League experience with the electives to meet their own academic interests and professional goals.
