Ranked among the best graduate schools of education by U.S. News, the master degree programs at the School of Education prepare students to become leaders, educators, researchers, advocates, and scholars who promote excellence and equity in every area of education.

The California Teaching Commission (CTC)-accredited dual M.Ed. and credential programs prepare students for careers in teaching. By the time you complete the program, you will have earned a master degree and a credential to teach K-12 in California, a designation that is widely accepted in other states and gives you access to career options. The programs begin in the Summer. The Bilingual Authorization and Ethnic Studies Pathway can be earned simultaneously through additional coursework.

M.Ed. in General Education with Single Subject or Multiple Subject Credential.

M.Ed. in Special Education with Education Specialist Credential.

The Master of Education is a professional degree designed to prepare students for careers in the K-16 environment. Students in the M.Ed. program participate in weekly, late afternoon classes (4-7pm) on campus in Riverside, and the degree can be earned in 1-2 years. No GRE required.

Almost all coursework transfers from the M.A. to the Ph.D., minimizing the time to degree. Students in the M.A. program participate in weekly, late afternoon classes (4-7pm) on campus in Riverside, and the degree can be earned in 1-2 years, at your own pace. No GRE required.

I think the best part the Research, Evaluation, Measurement, and Statistics program is its flexibility and interdisciplinary nature. I am gaining a deeper understanding of quantitative methods, and have been pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoy learning other fields such as sociology.

Prior to even beginning my program, I quickly noticed the resources and value SOE could offer me. Leading up to orientation, SOE had already sent me relevant student job postings, and directed me to teaching assistant positions, which I eventually applied for and was accepted. Not only did I gain a deeper insight into higher education, but I also gained the practical skills to help me flourish in a full-time role.

The M.A. program emphasized inclusivity and communal learning, and really stretched my critical awareness of societal and institutional barriers to education.

The university invite applicant to view the application as a portfolio of evidence demonstrating the self reflection, research, consultation and planning applicant have already undertaken.

The following are pointers for preparing an application that highlights their strengths in these areas; please note that this is not an exhaustive or prescriptive list of criteria for a successful application.

The university encourage applicant to consider the most important piece of the application to be the Academic Statement of Purpose

The university also recommend that applicant assist those who will write letters of recommendation for applicant in understanding the nature of the program and its fit to their academic and professional objectives. Be sure to alert their recommenders that a letter of recommendation is required; filling out the recommendation form alone is not sufficient.

Items that demonstrate their potential for academic success may include the quality of thought and writing evidenced in the SOP; strong and specific endorsements in academic and professional letters of recommendation; past academic performance evidenced on academic transcripts; depth, breadth, and relevance of experience evidenced on the resume, and GRE scores.

Indications of their ability to contribute to the diversity of perspectives and experiences represented in the cohort can be included in many parts of the application, including but not limited to the Personal Statement. Whereas the SOP is primarily oriented to the future, the Personal Statement is more retrospective and serves as an opportunity to provide more context for their application.

This may be worked into the text of the Statement of Purpose itself or take the form of an addendum immediately following the final paragraph of the Statement of Purpose, in the same document.
