The M.A.T. in English is designed for those students who wish to teach English at the secondary school level. Interested students apply to the Lynch School of Education at Boston College, NOT the English department. Students who pursue a M.A.T. in English are closely advised by the Lynch school faculty to ensure a strong background in a variety of subject areas. Such a foundation is necessary to prepare future teachers for the range of material they may be called upon to teach in a secondary school program.

English Language Programs holds tutorial hours every week throughout Fall and Spring semesters for students at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management. Spring 2023 consultations will be offered in person and online, presenting an opportunity to work on Analytical Writing and or Oral Communication skills from the convenience and safety of your own workspace. Every session is individually tailored to student goals and needs, and students may choose to focus on any aspect of the writing process. Dr. Moore helps students to develop critical-reading and note-taking strategies strengthen argument, analysis and structural logic learn academic citation practices and or advance sentence-level editing and revision techniques.

Boston University’s Master in Education (EdM) for English and Language Arts provides students with the opportunity to both earn a master’s degree and qualify for professional teaching licensure in English grades 5-12. Our program is designed for individuals with an initial teaching license or persons interested in teaching outside the public school system.

Application for admission to these programs involves submission of materials to Miami University's Graduate School. GRE scores are not required for admission to graduate programs offered by the Department of English.
1. The deadline for all residential Masters and PHD programs is December 5, 2019. Late applications will not be considered for funding.
2. The deadline for all residential Masters in Fine Arts in Creative Writing is January 2, 2019, though review will begin on December 5, 2019.
3. The deadlines for Low-residency Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing applications are June 15 for Summer Residency and December 1 for Winter Residency.

1. Eligibility: You are eligible to be considered for admission into a graduate program at Miami if you have earned a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution and meet the minimum standards of the Graduate School. You should have earned at least a 2.75 grade point average at the institution that awarded your bachelor’s degree or a 3.0 average for the last four semesters of study for your bachelor’s degree.
2. GRE Scores: GRE scores are not required and are not considered as a basis for admission or assistantship awards. GRE scores may be useful for admitted applicants who are nominated by the English department for competitive Graduate School Academic Achievement Awards.

Students must have qualifications appropriate to the curricular needs of the Department, and must demonstrate a capacity for making a useful contribution in the classroom. For reappointment, students must have a record of satisfactorily fulfilling teaching responsibilities relevant to the appointment as a TA TO or RA. Assessment of satisfactory performance may include, but is not limited to, consideration of student evaluations or reports, as well as the evaluation of the direct supervisors of the TA TO or RA. Distribution of appointments between the MA PhD and MFA Programs will generally reflect the proportionate size of the respective programs, taking into consideration the qualifications of applicants.
