GRE, GPA requirements for admission to Landscape Architecture

There are two curricula leading to the Master of Landscape Architecture degree. The First Professional Program is for those without an LAAB-accredited degree in Landscape Architecture. First Professional Master of Landscape Architecture Program (FPMLA)Post Professional Master of Landscape Architecture Program (PPMLA). Students with a research focus are encouraged to produce a thesis.

MLA I Application Instructions - School of Architecture

Landscape architecture is the regulated profession that ensures the health, safety, and welfare of citizens through landscape design. The MLA program has been training entry level professional landscape architects since 1958. As part of a research institution, our students experience how research impacts design. Because research methods are woven into our MLA curriculum, students learn important concepts research that is relevant to professional practice.

Admission Details

The MLA program does not require Graduate Record Examination scores for admittance at this time.

Master of Landscape Architecture Admission Requirements

The program is centered on the design studios, through which you are exposed to a wide range of scales and project types that integrate information from other classes and provide opportunities for interdisciplinary study. Many studio projects are community-based, working with real clients in the private and public sectors, from the intimate garden to landscape and greenway planning.

Applicants to both programs are expected to have taken the GRE.

Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning

The Master of Landscape Architecture has an emphasis in ecological landscape restoration. Program objectives are to educate students to become capable practitioners with knowledge of a specialty area of the discipline to educate practitioners who are trained to think critically and creatively each ecological situation and to develop a body of knowledge through research, long-term monitoring of restored landscapes, and comparison of methods upon which current and future professionals can draw. Landscape architecture is a professional discipline focused on the promotion of environmental balance and human well-being through sustainable design. Ecological landscape restoration, the emphasis of this M.L.Arch.

Standardized Test Scores: GRE GMAT: Due to testing limitations related to COVID-19, Tyler School of Art and Architecture is temporarily waiving submission of GRE scores for applicants to the MLArch in Landscape Architecture degree program. Applicants may still voluntarily submit GRE test scores, but scores will only be used as a supplement to required application materials.

Landscape Architecture

All graduate school applicants must possess the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor degree. An official academic record from all post-secondary education institutions attended is required. This may take some time so start this early in your application process. In the instance that official records cannot be obtained, unofficial records may be used to consider your application.
