The Center for Latin American Studies offers an interdisciplinary program of study leading to the M.A. degree.A joint program leading to a master’s degree and a Doctor of Law degree is also now available. The joint program, offering the two degrees, can be completed in four years.The three degree requirements for the M.A. in Latin American Studies include the successful completion of 36 credit hours of graduate coursework with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale successful completion of a language proficiency examination in Spanish or Portuguese and successful completion of a written comprehensive examination, which may be taken after the student has successfully completed 30 credit hours of coursework.Results of the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination are required for all native English-speaking applicants, and foreign students with degrees from colleges and universities in countries where English is the primary language. There is no minimum required score on the GRE. Applications will not be considered without GRE scores.Proficiency can be demonstrated by the receipt of a bachelor’s or advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in the United States or from a university where English is the primary language of instruction All other applicants must achieve at least a minimum score on either the TOEFL or IELTS test.
