Applicants must have received an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university (or a graduate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. academic institution and an equivalent undergraduate degree from a recognized academic institution outside the U.S.) by July 15 of the year of matriculation; no specific discipline or major is prescribed.

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the MCAT is required, though this requirement is being waived and changed to a recommendation. Note that GRE scores are only valid for five years and must be current at the time of application.

Candidates are required to submit two personal statements of no more than 2,000 characters and three letters of reference as part of the application process via CASPA.

Competitive applicants are recommended, but not required, to have a minimum of six months full-time healthcare employment, or 1,000 total hours of hands-on patient care experience and/or community service in a health care setting.

Candidates who still wish to submit official GRE scores as part of an application may do so at any time in the admissions process by sending scores from the GRE/ETS to the Northwestern University PA Program. Scores sent by any other method are not accepted. After submission, it may take 1-2 weeks for test scores to be visible to our program in your CASPA application profile.

**The submission of Graduate Record Examination (GRE) test scores is not required.**

All applications must be submitted and received by the October 1 deadline using the CASPA Application online. See the CASPA FAQ page for details on how to ensure your application is complete. Failure to meet the "complete" status requirements by the deadline will result in an incomplete application. Submissions must include:

1. CASPA application fee

2. Official academic transcripts

3. Personal statement

4. Three letters of reference (at least one letter of reference must be from a healthcare professional who can discuss the applicant's abilities with patients, preferably someone who has supervised the applicant in a clinical setting; personal references from friends or family members are not accepted)

5. Northwestern University PA Program Supplemental Application, completed and sent separately from the CASPA submission.

6. A candidate’s overall grade point average (GPA), as calculated by CASPA, must be a 2.80 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Applicants with an overall GPA below 2.80 are not considered further for admission.

The Supplemental Application can be started at any time with a current-cycle CASPA ID. It is not sent separately to selected applicants. It includes a $50 application fee paid online when submitting.

Tufts primarily focuses on the overall GPA, the science GPA, and the prerequisite GPA.

If a course is repeated, the repeated course needs to be a grade C or better and will be averaged with the original course to calculate the GPA.

All applicants must take either the general Graduate Record Examination or Medical College Admission Test within 5 years of the admissions cycle year. There is no preference given to either the GRE or the MCAT. If neither exam has been taken, the program recommends taking the GRE.

For the GRE, the program considers Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning. The GRE MCAT is required even if an applicant holds a master or doctorate degree.

Applicants to SLU's PA program should possess or be on track to a baccalaureate degree earned by the May prior to matriculation. An exception may be considered if students will earn an August degree, have completed all prerequisites and have three credits or fewer to complete during the summer.

Only grades of C or better are acceptable for science and math prerequisite courses; grades of C- or below are not accepted and grades of B or better are preferred. Prerequisite course work should be completed within seven years of application. Community college or online courses (except medical terminology) are not considered competitive substitutes.

Applicants whose native language is other than English are required to take the TOEFL® Internet-based Test by Nov. 1. A combined minimum score of 100 is required, along with minimum component scores of 22-Reading, 22-Listening, 26-Speaking and 24-Writing. Scores should be submitted to CASPA and to the PA Program.

Applications for this program close Nov. 1. Due to the CASPA verification process, it is recommended applications be submitted by Oct. 15 to meet the Nov. 1 deadline. Applicants who have met all requirements are encouraged to apply early between June and August. Completed applications are reviewed in the order applications are received.

Personal interviews occur between October and March. Five interview dates are scheduled with 20 applicants each date. Highly qualified applicants may be invited to an interview three to four weeks prior to the scheduled interview dates.
