ONLY the Ph.D. candidates are required to take the Graduate Record Exam however the program does not use a cut-off score for the GRE . Their application will be reviewed holistically and GRE scores will be considered as one of many components to their application.

Sport Management Admissions Guide
Although there is no specific minimum for a GMAT or GRE score, the average GMAT is 590 for the MS class and the average GMAT is 650 for the MBA MS class. If applicant have not yet taken either exam, the GMAT is preferred.
Applicant may take the GMAT or the GRE .
However, the university strongly prefer the GMAT because it is a better predictor for a business program.

The Sport Management will waive the GRE requirement for current College of Law students.
MA in Sport Management
Applicants must hold a four-year degree with any major from an accredited university-level institution. You may apply during your senior year prior to the completion of your undergraduate degree; however, your degree must post prior to the beginning of the our program. An overall GPA of 2.75 or higher is required.
Applicants with a GPA below 2.75 may be considered on a case-by-case basis. We encourage applicants who are below the 2.75 GPA requirement to schedule an appointment with a staff member.
The GRE or GMAT are optional and not required for admission. The admissions committee does not believe that standardized tests are the best indicator of success for graduate studies. An applicant may submit either their GRE or GMAT test score if they believe it might strengthen their application.
The Office of Graduate Programs must receive all application materials by the stated deadlines. Please DO NOT send any application items to the sport management office. July applicants should expect to receive an admission decision by April 15th. January applicants should expect to receive an admission decision by November 15th.
The admission committee evaluates each application completed by the application deadline based on the following criteria:
1. Academic transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable)
2. Sports and fitness background (jobs, internships, community activities, etc.)
3. Statement of purpose
4. Letters of recommendation
5. Professionalism displayed throughout the application process

GRE target score of 295 or GMAT target score of 560.
Sport Management, Masters of Professional Studies
Admission into the MPS program in Sport Management is contingent upon an assessment of the candidate’s ability to successfully pursue graduate study. This assessment will be made by examining previous academic performance, letters of recommendation, the applicant’s essay, work experience, performance on standardized exams and any other evidence that the admissions committee believes to be relevant.
Two letters of recommendation from individuals who can comment on the applicant’s academic abilities and potential to succeed in an academically rigorous graduate program.
A CV Resume is also required to be included in the application.
The admissions committee may request to interview the applicant either in person or by telephone.
The final approval of admission will rest with the graduate admissions committee of the Division of Sport Management.
Incomplete applications will not be considered and will delay the admissions process.
The graduate admissions committee will consider submitted GRE or GMAT scores in the admissions decision.
The experience gained through internships has assisted graduates in obtaining positions with sport organizations in public and media relations, advertising, sales promotion, marketing, financial management, facilities management, and administration.

A 3.0 GPA is required for graduation.
If applicant have previously taken the GRE, applicant may ask that the scores be sent to The University of Southern Mississippi, or applicant may choose to retake the GRE and have the new scores sent to USM.

Students may not enroll in SPT 799 until all core coursework has been successfully completed with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.

Deadlines for admission are typically in early December preceding the fall term in which you intend to enroll.
**Transcripts:** All applicants will submit scanned transcripts from each college or university where a degree has or will be earned as part of their online application.
**Letters of recommendation:** three letters are required, of which at least two should come from people who are well-acquainted with your academic work and research abilities.
**Test score reports:** GRE general test scores are required of all MEMP applicants. The quantitative and analytical GRE scores of successful candidates are generally above the 90th percentile, and verbal scores are generally above the 75th percentile.
If your first language is not English, you need to take either the TOEFL or the IELTS.

Admission and Progression
To maintain high program standards, enrollment in the professional program curriculum is limited and competitive. The number of applicants accepted will reflect an appropriate student-faculty ratio and the availability of appropriate clinical resources. Students should submit all application materials prior to October 1 for first consideration for acceptance into the program. The regular application deadline is February 15. The program begins in late May during the first summer school session.
In addition to pre-requisite coursework, the student will need to work with their advisor to ensure progression to graduate degree in fall of their senior year, and will need to maintain at 3.0 GPA.
