The Master of Theological Studies (M.T.S.) program in Saint Louis University Theological Studies is geared toward students who want to pursue focused scholarship, prepare for future doctoral work or simply exercise their intellectual curiosity. SLU M.T.S. program offers an ideal first degree in theology, orienting students to the major fields of theological study, including biblical studies, the history of Christianity, theological ethics and constructive theology. Resources for theology students at SLU include the than 37,000 microfilms of the Vatican Film Library, the archives of the Institute of Jesuit Sources and than 150,0000 volumes of the Divinity Library in the Pius XII Memorial Library (which contains 1.4 million books, journals and other media). Two ecclesiastical degree concentrations are offered at the S.T.L. and S.T.D. levels. Each track accentuates one of the two inseparable aspects of this academic area, Liturgical Studies Sacramental Theology. The S.T.L. S.T.D. in Liturgical Studies focuses primarily upon the liturgical historical development of services with an accentuation upon the theological development through the centuries as the vehicle of a living theology of Christian Worship. S.T.D. seminars will be chosen with this focus in mind.
