      Medicine concentration was designed for students to complete their medical sciences degree online. It is suited for students who want to expand their knowledge in the basic medical sciences prior to applying to professional schools. While the curriculum mirrors the pre-professional program, all coursework will be completed 100% online and will take an additional semester to complete due to the course schedule. The ideal student for this program will be self-directed during the facilitation of the coursework via our online platform known as CANVAS.

      A program designed for those with a concentrated interest in Anatomy to prepare for professional schools or teaching.

      This one-year program concentration was designed to develop expertise and experience in human gross anatomy, neuroanatomy, embryology, histology, pathology and laboratory medicine. This curriculum promotes the broad intellectual focus required for future professional students in the anatomical sciences or other health-care related professions. Graduates of these programs are anticipated to continue their professional development at medical and dental schools, as well as a variety of other healthcare professional programs. This program is also suited for those with an interest in teaching in the field of anatomy.

      A program designed to enlarge the pool of qualified under-represented minorities and individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who are interested in pursuing medicine as a career.

      The Interdisciplinary concentration provides qualified students with advanced training in the sciences basic to the practice of medicine. Students will take science and anatomy courses with first year medical students This program starts in mid-June on an alternative calendar with the medical school.       Molecular Medicine: This concentration will train students on the latest findings, concepts, and experimental techniques in the field, as well allow students to conduct laboratory research.

      For these concentrations, the courses are scheduled so that the degree can be completed within one year. In general, concentrations consist of an average of seven core science courses, with the remaining courses being offered as electives. While the concentrations do not require a thesis, students are expected to complete directed research courses. Courses within these concentrations will consist of both on-campus and online courses.

        No, applicants are not required to shadow a PA prior to applying to the program however, shadowing is recommended (500 hours). Once the CASPA application is submitted, additional hours cannot be added and will not be accepted.

        A non-refundable professional development seminar fee seat deposit of $715 is required to secure your seat in the program.

        All students selected for admission will be required to have a criminal background check, health assessment, and immunizations completed prior to matriculation. The offer of admission is conditional upon the results of the background check and health assessment, and drug screen.

        During enrollment, repeat background checks, health, and drug screens may be required. If a prospective student declines to undergo the background check, health assessment, or drug screen or if findings of a grievous nature are revealed, the offer of admission will be revoked. If a student declines to undergo a background check, health assessment, or drug screen while enrolled in the program or if findings of a grievous nature are revealed, this will be grounds for dismissal from the program. Acceptance into and successful completion of the FIU HWCOM MPAS Program does not imply or guarantee that the student will be able to obtain state licensure upon graduation.

        (ARC-PA) placed the Florida International University Physician Assistant Program sponsored by Florida International University on Accreditation-Probation status until its next review in 2023 March.

        The program is very demanding and intense therefore, students are strongly discouraged from working while committing to the program. The program requires a full-time commitment for the duration of the program i.e., days, nights, and weekends.

        Clinical rotations include seven core rotations of 4 weeks duration in the following areas: family practice, internal medicine, pediatrics, psychiatry, women health, surgery, and emergency medicine.

        Clinical rotations are done within an extensive network of locations which include hospitals, medical centers, and inpatient and outpatient clinics.

        The program determines the clinical placements for the seven core rotations. Students can submit a wish list for the 2 four-week elective rotations. This may include further experience in a core rotation area, a sub-specialty of interest, and or placement in a desired geographic area. The program does its best to match the student with the site providing an optimal clinical education experience.

        The clinical educational experiences are done predominantly in South Florida. Each student will do rotations in health care institutions of various sizes, populations, settings, and resources to ensure positive and diverse clinical experiences.

        Graduates earn a Master in Physician Assistant Studies. They are eligible to take the National Certifying Examination for Physician Assistants and apply for Licensure with the Florida State Medical Board as Physician Assistants.
