Our program provides our residents with an outstanding educational experience in both internal medicine and pediatrics at this renowned academic center.

As a Med-Peds resident, you will alternate between internal medicine and pediatric rotations every three to six months. As an intern, you will gain a solid clinical foundation through inpatient, intensive care, ambulatory, and emergency department settings. As you advance through the program, you will be given increased supervisory responsibilities as well as additional time for individualized curriculum blocks.

Our graduate programs at the UTRGV School of Medicine are designed to educate and provide training for careers in academia and clinical enterprise as well as the public and private sectors.

The Master of Science in Bioethics is an innovative program that is 100% online and designed for working professionals who want to lead transformation in bioethics, social justice, and health equity.

The School of Law, in association with the School of Medicine in the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, offers a program that enables a student to earn both the Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) and Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degrees in six years. The program is designed for individuals interested in the areas of health care, health care policy, bioterrorism, forensics, or biomedical compliance.

Interested students are required to submit an admission application and supporting documents to both the School of Law and the School of Medicine in the same annual admissions cycle. It is important to note that entrance into both programs of study require significant advanced preparation and adherence to strict deadlines. It is imperative that interested applicants familiarize themselves with the processes of both programs of study.

Applicants are encouraged to take the February or June LSAT in the year before they intend to begin the program. (E.g. Feb June 2016 for students starting Fall 2017) This will allow applicants to submit their JD application in early September and receive their decision before medical school commitments are due.

The Center for Perioperative Medicine (CPM) is a multi-disciplinary, interdepartmental research program focused on discovering novel therapeutic approaches to improve outcomes in surgical patients, and patients requiring emergency medicine or critical care. Founded in early 2018 under the leadership of Holger Eltzschig, MD, PhD, the center integrates physician scientists and basic scientists from different departments and institutions at McGovern Medical School in order to leverage excellence in clinical care and research expertise.

The primary goal of the center is to provide a collaborative environment for exchanging ideas, sharing data and resources, and developing multiple project grants. In addition, the center hopes to assist junior scientists in becoming independent researchers. Currently, the CPM includes representatives from anesthesiology, surgery, orthopedic surgery, critical care medicine, emergency medicine, pediatrics, transplantation, hepatology, pulmonary medicine, diabetes research, and oncology.

The field of Humanities, Health, and Medicine, which can also be referred to as the Medical and Health Humanities, explores and advances relationships between the humanities, arts, and social sciences on the one hand and health and health care on the other. The content and methods of humanistic disciplines have the power to transform health care for all by enhancing human connections, deepening the capacity for empathy, and improving our understanding of the cultural and social contexts in which health, illness, and care occur. At the same time, focusing on health and health care reveals new relevance for humanistic scholarship and teaching in a society increasingly dominated by STEM fields. Several books offer excellent s of the field, including Health Humanities Reader, Medical Humanities: An Introduction, and Research Methods in Health Humanities.

The MA-HHM program is a good fit for anyone excited intersections of humanities, health, and medicine who also wishes to hone their skills as writers, researchers, and critical thinkers while gaining a Master of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin.

The program is designed in particular, however, for three specific audiences:.

Students considering applications to health professional school but who also have interests in the humanities, arts, or humanistic social sciences. capacity to offer empathic and context-sensitive patient care, as well as to enhance their own self-care, self-reflection, and resilience. in admissions.

Students who wish to explore the special forms of significance that humanistic disciplines gain when pursued in the contexts of health, healing, and health care. Such students may ultimately choose to use their MA in Humanities, Health, and Medicine as a bridge to PhD programs in any number of humanities disciplines, including the medical humanities themselves.

Students, including those who may already have substantial professional experience, who wish to bring humanistic knowledge, skills, and frameworks to the health care sector, whether as care providers, researchers, policy advocates, consultants, or administrators.

Admissions for Fall 2025 entry will open in August 2024. The priority admissions deadline is December 15, 2024. All applications must be received by March 1, 2024.

The goal of the Master of Integrative Wellness Management (MIWM) program is to train individuals to be a healthcare and wellness administrator. Students who complete the prescribed course of study at the American College of Acupuncture Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) will be awarded a Master of Integrative Wellness Management degree. The degree program is a 4 semester degree program with the option of completing the program in 3 semesters and a maximum of 6 semesters. The program places heavy in Chinese medical theory, wellness, and healthcare management.

A student who has earned a master degree may be admitted on the basis of that degree with a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Applicants may be considered for admission if they have completed at least 90 baccalaureate-level semester credits (135 quarter credits) from a college or university that is accredited by an accrediting agency that is approved by the U.S. Education or Council for Higher Education Accreditation with a minimum overall grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

The 90 credits must include at least 30 credits of general education courses drawn from the following areas:.

English language competency is required of all students seeking admission to the MIWM program that require a school-issued F-1 I20. This must be demonstrated by one of the following means:.

In 1987, six years after the first reported case of AIDS, the Federal Drug Administration approved a pioneering antiviral cocktail to treat the disease. Since then, medical advances have made it possible to keep HIV from becoming AIDS. that is, glancingly low levels of HIV in their systems.

But both goals are surprisingly hard to achieve. Getting patients to adhere to their antiretroviral therapy is also a conundrum: Just 55 percent of those with HAART actually take their meds as prescribed.
