Menu M.S. in Skin Biology and Dermatological Sciences.

The M.S. in Skin Biology and Dermatological Sciences (SBDS) Program is a training process for translational research in skin science and dermatology, which covers basic aspects of skin biology and clinical problems. The curriculum is offered each year over three semesters. The degree offers two paths: non-thesis and thesis.

Our hybrid degree program is just one example of this. The program is designed for working professionals, with 50% of course credit on campus and 50% online (synchronous and asynchronous). Students attend both on-campus and virtual classes.

A Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited program in life science other backgrounds including management, engineering or computer science may be considered on an individual basis. If an applicant does not have a degree in the life sciences, they should demonstrate knowledge and exposure to the life sciences through work experience or other outlet. We recommend applicants use their resume and statement of purpose to describe their educational development in the life sciences post degree.

The online bioscience management degree requires the completion of 30 graduate credit hours. The distribution of credits is as follows:.

The stackable structure of the MAT in Biology is ideal for high school and community college educators wanting to teach dual-credit courses, or for high school educators wanting to teach at the community college level. These standards require teachers wanting to teach dual-credit courses in biology to hold either a master degree in biology or a master degree in another discipline (such as education), plus at least 18 credit hours of discipline-specific graduate coursework.

Biology and Biological Sciences provides advanced training for college graduates or professionals seeking careers in biomedical research, biotechnology, neuroscience or biodefense, as well as evolutionary and animal biology, animal biology and biology teaching. Alternatively, students may choose the program in general biological sciences, which allows flexibility to build a study program tailored to a specific research or career interest. Students do either Thesis or Project.

Students who are interested in a career in modern biology and biotechnology, clinical research, human genetics and molecular evolution (Thesis track), or future applicants to medical and dental schools (Project track).

Online students will be introduced to opportunities of doing their Project Thesis work remotely.

This degree completion program gives students a convenient and flexible option to complete biology degrees started at a community college or campus-based university.

Students must also complete the University Common Requirements (UCORE). These can generally be satisfied with a direct transfer degree.

Students must also fulfill the College of Arts and Sciences graduation requirements and the program requirements of the degree.

A student may certify a major in biology upon completing 24 credits with a GPA of 2.0 or higher.

The Bachelor of Science degree in Biology requires a minimum of 19 semester credit hours of core BIOLOGY courses (BIOLOGY 106, 107, 301, 372 and 405 or 403). The 21 semester credit hours must include 15 upper division credits, six of which must be BIOLOGY courses taken in residence at WSU.

Student success is the primary goal of the Biology Department. The department brings in millions of dollars in grants each year to support research. Each year, the department also awards nearly $10,000 in scholarships for current Biology students.

The graduate program is an integral part of the Biology Department curriculum. We offer an on-campus master thesis and a completely online master non-thesis degree. Because of the large size of the program, the department is able to offer numerous classes to allow students to get a broad biology background or to specialize to help achieve career goals. On-campus students have the opportunity to apply for a teaching assistantship that provides tuition support and a stipend for graduate students who teach introductory biology laboratories.
