The goal of USU’s Online Master of Natural Resources degree is to prepare you for an advanced career in natural resource management positions. This program is designed for professionals who continue working while earning the degree. Faculty have real-world experience, and teach relevant concepts in analysis and decision theory. Coursework focuses on human dimensions, quantitative methods, ecological foundations, spatial analysis and policy/administration. Student earning this degree may also complete the Geographic Information Science (GIS) or National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) certificates in conjunction with this degree.

The Master of Natural Resources (MNR) is an interdisciplinary course-based graduate program designed for current and aspiring professionals who wish to enhance their educational credentials for a career in natural resources. The fundamental objective of the MNR graduate program is to integrate and scale various perspectives — ecology and management; planning, policy and society; and tools and technology — into a systems view of natural resources.

This unique professional degree is accessible to students of diverse academic backgrounds and will help graduates develop credentials and skills for the effective management of natural resources. The degree program can be completed entirely online or through a combination of online and on-campus courses. The MNR program can be combined with the certificate program specializing in fire ecology, management and technology.

All four options listed above are available via online education or on the Moscow campus. The Environmental Education and Science Communication Option (EESC) is a residential program that is only available at the U of I McCall Field Campus, home of MOSS.

Through the suite of courses in these option areas and a final capstone project or portfolio, students from diverse academic backgrounds gain the knowledge and skills to better understand and effectively manage natural resources.

The College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment comprehensive online Master of Natural Resources (MNR) degree is an interdisciplinary course-based non-thesis graduate program designed for current and aspiring professionals who wish to enhance their educational credentials through distance learning and increase their knowledge and skills to develop workable solutions for complex challenges affecting the regulation and management of natural resources and implementation of environmental policy.

This 30-credit hour professional degree is manageable to students of diverse academic backgrounds and busy work schedules and allows for the student to tailor the degree to their career interests and goals, including management positions in natural resource-focused government and nonprofit agencies. The diverse curriculum trains students with the latest technologies and theories to hone their critical thinking and problem-solving skills applicable to current industry and specific issues within the field of natural resource management.

The MNR graduate program can be customized with a broad spectrum of courses to balance economic, health and environmental interests, including a combination with one or more of the online certificate programs in Restoration Ecology, Forest Finance and Investment or One Health. The non-thesis MNR degree is also convenient and flexible, allowing students to complete their degree entirely online or through a combination of online and on-campus courses.

Master of Science in Environmental Policy and Management with a concentration in Natural Resource Management requires completion of 48 credit hours (12 courses).
