Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
College description: Program in Mechanical Aerospace Engineering at UC San Diego is a flexible program with grounding in MAE fundamentals and a focus on the next generation of mechanical engineering. This plan of study involves both coursework and research, culminating in the preparation of a thesis. A total of 36 units of credit are required: 24 units (6 courses) must be in course work, and 12 units must be in research.
Admission to the Materials Science and Engineering Program is in accordance with the general requirements of the graduate division, which requires at least a B.S. and or M.S. in some branch of engineering sciences, the physical sciences or mathematics; the university average GPA of admitted students is 3.5; and three letters of recommendation from individuals who can attest to the academic or professional competence and to the depth of their interest in pursuing graduate study.
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought on much uncertainty and the university understand that applicants may face challenges scheduling the GRE test. For this reason, Materials Science and Engineering will not require the GRE test for its MS and PhD applications for Fall 2021 admission. Graduate Specialization in Automotive Systems and Mobility

Students wishing to partake in the GS-ASM program are required to gain admission to the mechanical engineering graduate program in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
Thesis option and PhD students are required to take one core sequence while non-thesis students are required to take two course sequences. Regardless of whether a GS ASM student is completing a master’s thesis, non-thesis project or doctoral dissertation, it is required that the final research product is relevant to automotive systems.
In addition to the Core Sequence Requirement, each GS-ASM student is required to take a minimum number of credit hours of expertise area coursework, as indicated in Table 1. In order to fulfill the Expertise Area Requirement, at least three hours of the required coursework credits must be drawn from the list of core focus areas

College description: 6, 2018, the graduate admissions process has changed. The Aerospace Engineering offers a non-thesis Master of Engineering (MEngr. Or MEN) degree in which students complete a minimum of 30 hours on their degree plans.
