Masters programs in Civil Engineering which do not require GRE - Updated 2020
College description: Civil Engineering provides a comprehensive research and educational platform for theoretical, computational and experimental studies in the field of Mechanics of Materials.Like the rest of Civil Engineering, mechanics is at the core of this research. The program’s key strengths include Earthquake Engineering, Stochastic Mechanics and Structural Reliability, Optimization of Design Structures, and Cold-Formed Steel Structures.Civil engineering today is a dynamic, complex, and technologically sophisticated field. Current projects include fracture and fatigue in materials and structural systems, earthquake engineering, and applying systems approaches to improving patient flow in hospitals. The PhD program at the Johns Hopkins University Civil Engineering aims to inspire the leaders of tomorrow to take on the challenge of creating and sustaining the built environment that underpins the university society. Focal research areas in the Department include structural engineering, structural mechanics, probabilistic methods, hazards management, and systems engineering.Students graduate from the program with a sense of the responsibility that the civil engineering profession accepts for applying the principles of engineering sciences for the betterment of the built environment and society. Its graduates have an appreciation of professional ethics and the value of service to their profession and society through participation in technical activities, and in community, state and national organizations.Graduates of the program possess critical thinking skills, the ability for both independent and team problem-solving, and a sense of the excitement of engineering creativity and design.
Multi-scale, multi-physics and probabilistic modeling of materials and structures form the basis of this concentration area and bridge the gap between fundamental sciences and engineering applications.Different aspects of learning are integrated through classroom, laboratory instruction, and independent study experiences. The program also develops communication skills necessary for its graduates to function in teams and to deal with other professions in public and private arenas. Its progressive education furthers student understanding of the context in which engineering is practiced in modern society. Thus, the program educates leaders for tomorrow, providing the tools and perspectives for a lifetime of learning, opportunities, and professional advancement. The Department of Civil Engineering offers combined bachelor’s/master’s degrees. For students who are admitted to this program, the two degrees typically require five years total to complete.Applications to the combined Bachelor’s/Master’s program should be submitted in the fall or spring of the junior year, but no later than June 15th BEFORE their senior year.Shorter time to degree for a Master’s program – 5 years as opposed to the typical 6 year completion.

College description: The Civil Engineering graduate program offers three types of graduate degrees.Applicants may directly for the Ph.D. degree the M.S. Ph.D. degree just the M.S. degree. The M.S. degree has, however, two options: Thesis option, and Non-thesis option.A student becomes a candidate for the Ph.D. degree after passing the preliminary and qualification examinations. The Ph.D. degree requires the final defense of a dissertation based on the research work undertaken by the student. The M.Eng.degree is targeted to professional engineers seeking management roles with specialization in Construction Management, Structural Engineering, or Transportation Engineering. The coursework requirements for this degree are similar to that for the M.S. degree with non-thesis option. All the degrees require prescribed credit hours of coursework.
The university offer Master of Engineering , Master of Science and Doctoral degrees in Civil Engineering and M. And Ph.D. degrees in Environmental Engineering. Degree in Civil Engineering with Construction Management focus. If applicant obtain their Bachelor's degree at an institution in the United States, or at an international institution where the official language of instruction is English. This program is part of the Environmental Engineering Graduate Program and applications must be made to Environmental Engineering.Part-time students are challenged to be creative and flexible in how they can achieve the courses/hours required, and must work closely with their advisor to maintain this status.A minimum 3.0/4.0 GPA and excellent GRE scores are the university general qualification criterion for admission. However, the university take all aspects of an application into consideration. This means that the strength of letters of recommendation and statement of purpose, as well as the GRE scores and GPA, will be part of the overall consideration.Applications must be complete by January 15th. Strongest consideration for financial support will be given to qualified applicants who have completed their application by the January 15th deadline. The Vanderbilt University does not make early admission decisions and every qualified applicant whose application is complete and officially submitted by the January 15th deadline will receive equal consideration. If the program applicant are in did not require the GRE, then applicant will need to take it to be considered for the university program. If the degree program is comparable to the university program, at an accredited four-year college or university, and applicant have received a grade of A or B.A maximum of 6 hours can be transferred towards the M.S. degree. A maximum of 48 hours can be transferred towards the Ph.D. degree. The credit transfers are subject to the approval of the Director of Graduate Studies of the relevant degree program, must be relevant to the graduate programWith a satisfactory TOEFL score of 89 on the internet-based test. For Ph.D./M.S. applicants, the university only accept the TOEFL.If applicant obtain their Bachelor's degree at an institution in the United States OR at an international institution where the official language of instruction is English.

College description: The master of science in structural engineering with specialization in structural health monitoring and non-destructive evaluation provides highly interdisciplinary knowledge incorporating three broad technology areas: sensing technology, data interrogation, and modeling and analysis. The intersections and integration of these technology areas are fundamental to supporting structural health monitoring and nondestructive evaluation, which may be defined as the process of making an uncertainty-quantified assessment, based on appropriate analyses of in-situ measured data, the current ability of a structural component or system to perform its intended design function successfully. This discipline within structural, civil, mechanical, and aerospace engineering is a fundamental capability that supports design-to-retirement life cycle management of systems.Sensors and Data Acquisition for Structural Engineering. Two degree options in SHM NDE will be offered: MS Thesis option and MS Comprehensive Examination option. Additionally, the MS SHM NDE Thesis plan involves regular course work and graduate research leading to the completion and defense of a master’s thesis. For the MS Thesis option, the eight-unit graduate research culminates with the preparation of a written research thesis. All students in this degree program, for both degree options, must register in SE 290, Seminar, for any two quarters while enrolled in the program.
The Department of Structural Engineering at UCSD offers instruction leading to the degrees of master of science and doctor of philosophy in structural engineering In addition, an M.S. degree in structural health monitoring, prognosis, and validated simulations has been activated. The doctor of philosophy degree program is intended to prepare students for careers in teaching, research, and/or in their chosen professional specialties.Admission to the UCSD graduate division requires at least a B.S. degree in engineering, physical sciences, or mathematics with an overall minimum grade point average of 3.00. Applications are accepted only for fall quarter. The general GRE test is required; subject GRE test is not required.Applicants pay the application fee under the section title “begin submit process” and it must be paid using a major credit card: MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover, or JCB Card.Applicants who are applying for the Structural Engineering Department should take the GRE exam no later than December to insure the timely receipt of score results.International students from non-English speaking countries are required to demonstrate proficiency in English via the TOEFL exam. The minimum TOEFL score required is 550 for the paper-based and 85 for the internet-based testTOEFL Score ResultsApplicants will be required to scan and upload transcripts directly into their graduate application when completing their application. Thus, a complete systems approach from materials development and large-scale experiments to implementation of sensor networks and development of design recommendations and nonlinear analytical models is typical for research projects in the Department.
