Physics and Engineering Physics
College description: The Physics and Engineering Physics is able to offer a wide variety of courses covering both general and specific topics of study for science majors, as well as survey courses for non-science majors of all background levels who may be interested in taking a physics course. Those completing the Physics major also have the opportunity to continue their education through the 4+1 Masters Program .The Physics major may be combined with an Engineering Science minor. For graduate students, the Physics and Engineering Physics offers rigorous lecture courses along with individualized research courses for students working towards earning their PhD. The university now offer two Ph.D. programs: 1) The Physics program, which includes theoretical and experimental physics and 2) the Materials Physics and Engineering program, which emphasizes novel materials and applications.
There is currently no application fee for either the Physics or Materials Physics and Engineering Ph.D. program. The university normally only accept graduate students who intend to pursue the Ph.D. degree.Applications can be filled out online, starting here. The GRE general exam is required for all applicants. The GRE Physics subject exam is strongly recommended, but not required, for applicants to the Physics Ph.D. Program. The TOEFL exam is required for all applicants who are non-native English speakers.Tulane University of Louisiana has no minimum required GRE scores. The Tulane University of Louisiana does have a minimum TOEFL score of 80. The test scores are used, along with other indicators such as GPA and recommendation letters, to make relative comparisons of applicants. The university look for a complete picture in the application to find the students who the university think will fit in best in the university department. The university usually receive over 100 qualified applications. The university encourage applicant to submit an application, and assure applicant that every application will receive full consideration in due time. The university can accept unofficial TOEFL and GRE scores, such as photocopies of ETS score reports, at the time of their application. All graduate students are required to carry health insurance, either through the Tulane plan or privately. The total time required usually does not exceed 15-16 hours/week, so that teaching assistants are able to carry a full load of graduate work.

College description: The M.S. in Engineering Physics program at Appalachian State University offers hands-on, laboratory-based courses that prepare students for entry into industry or a Ph.D. program. Graduates of this program tend to have tremendous flexibility in their careers because they can bridge the gap between scientists, engineers and technicians, which make them highly valuable to companies and research labs.Graduates are also well prepared for a Ph.D. program. Students of the M.S. in Engineering Physics degree typically enter the program with little or no engineering experience and leave with a broad foundation in fundamental physics, hands-on practical and theoretical training in electrical engineering, and experience in software engineering for automation and robotics. The university graduates are very competitive in the job market and have been very successful in both industry and Ph.D. programs. Two of the concentrations are Professional Science Master concentration. PSMs are a nationally affiliated degree that includes advanced training in engineering physics, along with technical writing and MBA coursework. In addition, many of the university PSM students choose to pursue a dual degree with the MBA program. Overall, 20% of the university students spend an extra year to receive both an M.S. and an MBA. If business is not interesting to applicant, the university systems and laboratory automation concentration allows applicant the flexibility to take engineering physics courses only or to pursue some coursework in other departments such as technology, mathematics, or computer science. The M.S. Engineering Physics program has been hailed by the American Institute of Physics as among the unranked list of the top 13 programs of Masters-granting institutions nationwide Primarily, the graduate curriculum and graduate student projects are focused on the Physics of Engineering specifically of the study and development of instrumentation and automation for applications such as remote sensing, signal processing, astronomical control systems, manufacturing and testing controls, and robotics.Application for admission to the program is open to any graduate of an accredited college or university who holds a bachelor degree in physics, engineering, computer science, electronics, mathematics, or a related area.
Appalachian’s Master of Science in Engineering Physics program prepares students with the necessary skills to excel in industry, government research labs or a PhD program. In addition, students develop troubleshooting and problem solving techniques and tools for dealing with sophisticated technical problems and the versatility required for long-term success in a rapidly evolving technical environment.Professional Science Master’s in Instrumentation and Automation – a nationally affiliated degree designed for the student who is interested in developing skills in electronics, instrumentation and automation as well as acquiring business and workplace skills.Professional Science Master’s in Nanoscience for Advanced Materials – a nationally affiliated degree designed for the student who is interested in developing skills in electronics, microscopy, nanotechnology and materials as well as acquiring business and workplace skills.Required Entrance Exam: GRERequired number of references to specify in the online form: 3Supplemental Information: ResumeAll applications for a given entry term will be weighed based upon the number of seats available and the quality of the complete application packages.Admission to Engineering Physics: Both qualitative and quantitative aspects of applications are reviewed in comparison to the current applicant pool.According to the American Institute of Physics, students with a master’s degree with a science-related career typically receive a higher salary that will pay for the degree within a year or two.The university students find great satisfaction and fun from working in the university hands-on environment. The college is dedicated to providing instruction and research essential to the university's mission and seeks to cultivate the habits of inquiry, learning and service among all its constituents.Accelerated admissions program opportunities are available in pursuing a master's degree in 11 selected areas: Appalachian Studies, Computer Science, Engineering Physics, English, Geography and Planning, History, Mathematics, Romance Languages , Political Science, Psychology and Public Administration.
