As their degree goal, applicant should specifically apply for admission to the Ph. D. Applicants should never check the MA option on the application, because there is no financial aid available for MA students.
The university recommend that applicant submit their application materials by 18 December for admission in the following fall term. The final deadline for admission with financial aid is 4 January. Late applications are accepted until 15 April, but there is no guarantee that financial aid will be available for students applying after the January deadline.
A personal statement outlining the applicant's goals and reasons for applying to the program;
At least three letters of recommendation;
A complete set of official academic transcripts;
A recent sample of the applicant's academic writing in either German or English
The GRE general test is not required. Please do not send us GRE test scores.
If applicant are not a US citizen and are not a native speaker of English, applicant must take the TOEFL examination and have the scores reported to NYU.
NYU also now accepts the IELTS as a test of English language proficiency. Applicant must send their test scores electronically from IELTS by requesting they be sent to us.
Although the tuition component of the graduate financial aid package can be applied to summer courses, the stipend cannot be extended to cover the summer months.

College description: The Certificate in German for Professionals and Educators is designed to develop professional grade German language skills, deepen cultural knowledge of the German world, and acquire advanced intercultural competence. The program includes an international component (summer or one semester study in Salzburg).
They will also be able to apply cultural knowledge of the German speaking world in personal contexts.
Applicants are required to submit an official transcript from all colleges and universities attended. The GRE is not required for admission to BGSU certificate programs.
All applicants must ubmit two letters of recommendation and a statement of purpose outlining their experience with German, their professional goals and the research interests they wish to pursue.
International applicants are also required to submit scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language or the International English Language Testing System

College description: The German and Scandinavian Studies Program offers graduate work leading to the degrees of Master of Arts (M.A.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in German Studies. Our strengths are in interdisciplinary literary and cultural studies, including Black German Studies, Cultural and Intellectual History, Film Studies, GDR Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, German-Jewish Studies, Holocaust Studies, Medieval Studies, Minority Studies, Theater and Performance Studies, Transnationalism, and Turkish German Studies.
Applicants are not required to submit GRE scores. Non-native speakers of English who hold a degree from an English-language college or university or have attended one for at least two years do not need to submit TOEFL scores.

Anyone wishing to take non-degree or certificate courses should apply through the online application system and pay the $50 non-refundable application fee. The application fee is waived for Case Western Reserve University employees.
The deadline to apply for Fall is August 15, for Spring is January 1 and for Summer is May 1.

Applicants who want to later transfer coursework into a graduate degree seeking program should seek early advice from the program where they intend to apply.
Students should not assume that entering as a non-degree will later grant admission to any graduate degree program, or that all coursework will transfer into a program.
