College description: The program provides a solid theoretical framework and grounding in policy analysis, administration, and management in the Latin American region.This joint program allows students to obtain both J.D. and M.A. degrees in 3 or 3 ½ years - less time than obtaining the degrees separately.On the M.A. side, students must complete 21 credits in Latin American Studies courses, and 9 credits will be double-counted from the J.D. coursework to complete the total of 30 credits. Students will be required to complete a total of 103 credits for both degrees.Students will be required to write a master’s thesis, create an equivalent capstone project, or pass a comprehensive exam.A major indigenous language of Latin America may be substituted for either Spanish or Portuguese.Students may begin the M.A. program in the fall or spring semesters.For admission to the M.A. program students must complete an MA application.Acceptance by one program does not in any way indicate or guarantee acceptance by the other degree program.

The Latin American Studies program employs a rolling admissions deadline.

Here applicant may complete the application, taking as much time as applicant need, of course while keeping the January 4th deadline in mind. The TOEFL/IELTS is the only admissions requirement that applies specifically to international applicants. The University of Chicago does not require a minimum GRE score for admission nor do University of Chicago provides statistics on the GRE scores for admitted students. The university will accept GRE scores that are less than 5 years old. The University of Chicago does require that admitted applicants obtain a minimum score for the TOEFL prior to matriculation.

As a matter of fact, if applicant are considering the Ph.D. as their degree goal, applicant should specifically apply for admission to the Ph.D. program by checking the Ph.D. option on their application form.

Non-Degree Application - Submit their transcripts

The Case Western Reserve University is unable to deliver an admission letter without having their official transcripts on file from their highest degree earned.

Anyone wishing to take non-degree courses should apply through the online application system and pay the $50 non-refundable application fee. Applicant must send official transcripts in order for their application to be processed.

Case Western Reserve University employees do not need to submit degree verification and their application fee is waived.

MA and PhD French Program Admissions

Students applying for admission to the graduate program are evaluated on the basis of previous academic performance, letters of recommendation, a personal statement, and two writing samples. GRE scores are required for American applicants.

Applicants to the graduate program are considered for departmental funding as teaching assistants or for Arts and Sciences fellowships, unless otherwise stated on the application form. There is no separate application for such funding.
