Applicant will read, discuss, and hear from guest speakers, as well as develop a learning plan specific to their summer or academic year internship placement.This course explores instances like those that highlight the interaction between language and identity and its implications for learning. This course will offer a detailed examination of scholarship that investigates the power of the subtle messages embedded in language.NnnThus the course has a practical purpose: to develop testable ideas for improving the comfort level, fairness and goodness-for-all of identity diverse communities--especially in educational settings. NnnThe course also has a basic science purpose: to explore the psychological significance of community.This course is about science teaching and learning in non-classroom settings. Applicant will use the research on teaching and learning to make STEM experiences relevant to more learners, create and facilitate a learner-centered approach to science experiences in an informal setting, and practice being a culturally responsive teacher.Notes: Attendance at first class required.
