College description: The field of public health nutrition seeks to understand the complex causes of malnutrition, including both over and under-nutrition, and the consequences of malnutrition on growth, development, communicable and non-communicable disease, and economic productivity through the life course and across generations.Public health nutrition also concerns itself with the development and evaluation of programs and policies to improve diets and nutritional status. The public health nutrition practitioner requires a solid understanding of the biology of nutrition, the individual, community and socio-political determinants of dietary intakes and nutritional status, and the principles of program and policy design, implementation, and evaluation. As such, the public health nutrition concentration takes a broad perspective with respect to both content and methodological approaches to equip students for careers in public health nutrition. Graduates can use these skills to serve government agencies, the private sector, nongovernmental organizations, applied research institutions, and universities in the the students.S. and globally.Describe the magnitude, distribution and trends of nutrition problems in populations.Evaluate the efficacy or effectiveness of nutrition programs or policies.
The Emory University does not have any required prerequisites for the program.These individual’s applications show that they would be a good fit for the university program and will add to the diversity and richness of the university student body. While a Masters degree is not required, most of the university admitted students have masters in nutrition, public health, or related fields.GRE scores are accepted but no longer required for applicants to the NHS program. There are no set minimums for GRE scores or GPAs. The admissions committee takes into account all of the application materials when making its decision.The mean percentile scores of enrolled students providing GRE scores over the last few years were: 82nd percentile verbal; 68th percentile quantitative; and 78th percentile analytical writing.The university receive around 40-60 applications each year and admit 3-5 students.The university must receive all materials from applicant by the deadline, although letters of recommendation can arrive later. Official GRE scores may also arrive at Emory after the deadline, but applicant must have taken the test before applying and be able to provide scores in their application.All NHS students are required to complete one semester-long Teaching Assistantship, typically in one of the core Nutrition courses, although interested students can get additional experience.In addition, the NHS students produce a program newsletter that has lots of information about what is going on in the university program. Make sure applicant upload the correct version of their statement of purpose, resume and transcripts, as the university office is unable to remove or add any document in their application once it has been submitted.Each transcript must be uploaded during the application process.Official transcripts are not required and will not be used in the review process. If applicant are offered admission and accept the offer applicant are then required to submit an official sealed transcript from each university applicant have attended.Statement of purpose – their statement of purpose should be approximately 500 words in length and should describe their reasons for pursuing a PhD in Nutrition and Health Sciences, their research interests, and why applicant feel the NHS doctoral program is a good fit for their doctoral training.The general test of the GRE is accepted but not required. If applicant choose to submit a GRE score with their application, please indicate their registration number and scores in the application if the exam has been taken before applicant submit the application. The subject test is not required, but there is space to list their scores if applicant have taken the exam.The Test of English as a Foreign Language is required if their native language is not English.The university goal is to streamline the application process for applicant and to make the application review process as paperless as possible.

College description: Understanding nutrition-related biochemical and cellular processes has far reaching implications for maintenance of health and prevention of chronic diseases.The Biochemical and Molecular Nutrition Program trains students in the biochemical, physiological and molecular aspects of nutrition.Nutrition Sciences is in the Division of Biochemical and Molecular Nutrition.The Biochemical and Molecular Nutrition Program leads to the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees, as well as a combined degree with MPH. The curriculum includes nine core courses in the areas of nutrition, graduate biochemistry including a molecular component, human physiology, biostatistics, and epidemiology. Students with adequate preparation and or demonstrated proficiency in an area of required study may substitute electives in biochemistry, genetics, cellular physiology, immunology, neuroscience, or developmental biology.The curriculum includes core courses in nutrition, biostatistics, and biochemistry.
