Admission and GRE requirements
The Emory University does not have any required prerequisites for the program.
While a Masters degree is not required, most of the university admitted students have masters in nutrition, public health, or related fields.
GRE scores are accepted but no longer required for applicants to the NHS program.
The mean percentile scores of enrolled students providing GRE scores over the last few years were: 82nd percentile verbal; 68th percentile quantitative; and 78th percentile analytical writing.
Official GRE scores may also arrive at Emory after the deadline, but applicant must have taken the test before applying and be able to provide scores in their application.
All NHS students are required to complete one semester-long Teaching Assistantship, typically in one of the core Nutrition courses, although interested students can get additional experience.
The Nutrition and Health Sciences Program only awards a Ph.D. degree.
Applicant can submit their application before their letter writers have submitted their letters of recommendation, and applicant can submit without GRE scores if they are not yet available.
Official transcripts are not required and will not be used in the review process. If applicant are offered admission and accept the offer applicant are then required to submit an official sealed transcript from each university applicant have attended.
The general test of the GRE is accepted but not required. If applicant choose to submit a GRE score with their application, please indicate their registration number and scores in the application if the exam has been taken before applicant submit the application. The subject test is not required, but there is space to list their scores if applicant have taken the exam.
The Test of English as a Foreign Language is required if their native language is not English.

Our Nutrition Education Program
Applicant will need a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
The university may accept up to six hours of graduate work from another institution that applies directly to the degree.
A TOEFL score of 600 , a minimum score of 68 on the Pearson Test of English, or a minimum IELTS score of seven is required.
GRE test is not required.
Effective January 1, 2024 the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics will require all registered dietitian candidates to have a master’s degree.

Students in the MS in Nutrition Sciences Clinical Track/Dietetic Internship must complete 48 semester hours of graduate-level coursework
All required public health coursework is offered online.
Students in the MS in Nutrition Sciences Lifestyle Management and Disease Prevention Track must complete 36 semester hours of graduate-level coursework
Students in the Dietitian Education Program must complete 58 hours of graduate-level coursework
Students in the MS in Nutrition Sciences Clinical Track/Prior Learning Option must complete 30 semester hours of graduate-level coursework This is a non-thesis track and all required coursework is offered online.
Students in the MS in Nutrition Sciences Research Track must complete 37 semester hours of graduate-level coursework Students in the Research Track are required to complete and orally defend thesis research that contributes to the knowledge of nutrition sciences
The doctoral program combines required and elective didactic coursework in basic sciences and nutrition with research incorporating basic science, clinical applications, and translational research conducted in superb facilities in an outstanding research environment.
Successful completion of the Ph.D. will require completion of a minimum of 14 semester hours in core courses and at least 24 additional graduate semester hours of required and elective coursework from nutrition and other disciplines; passing a comprehensive written qualifying examination; and defense of a dissertation reporting the results of original scientific research that makes a genuine contribution to the knowledge of nutrition sciences.
