Admission Details

Graduate Record Exam is no longer required.

PhD program applicants may submit only one application per admissions year but may request to transfer an application to a different program at any point in the application process.

Evidence of the earned degree is required prior to matriculation in the form of an official transcript noting degree conferral.

GRE scores are optional and submission is at the discretion of the applicant. Applicants may submit their GRE scores if they believe it will add to their application. Not submitting a GRE will not be held against the applicant.

If the applicant is NOT submitting scores please disregard the GRE submission question on the application.

Otherwise, research papers, publications and other original works, as well as resumes and CVs may also be submitted for consideration, but are not required.

Cell Biology of Disease Graduate Program

Major: Veterinary Medical Science Pathobiology Degrees Offered: M.S. Ph.D. Joint Degree Program: Veterinary Medical Scholars Program Degrees Offered: D.V.M. and Ph.D. The Pathobiology offers graduate programs leading to the degree of Master of Science. Areas of specialization include epidemiology, infectious diseases, immunology, virology, bacteriology, anatomic pathology, and clinical pathology. Each specialty area has a core of required courses supplemented by other courses within the Pathobiology and from other departments of the Graduate College. Applicants for graduate study in the Pathobiology must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (A 4.0).

Admission Details

The Graduate Record Examination is required and must have been taken within the last five years prior to application. Usually, successful candidates score an average in the 80th percentile or higher on each of the three portions of the GRE to be eligible for consideration.

International applicants whose native language is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language A score of at least 600 on the paper-based test, or 250 on the computer-based test, is required. Students are exempt from the TOEFL requirement if they have completed at least two academic years of full-time study at an institution where the language of instruction is English during the five-year period prior to the proposed date of enrollment.

Experience in teaching is considered a vital part of the graduate program and is required as part of the academic work of all M.S. candidates in this program.

Pathobiology University of Illinois

Admission Details

Courses required for a Ph.D. degree in pathology include the core basic biomedical sciences coursework, which covers topics in biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, pathology, genetics, pharmacology, microbiology, immunology and neurobiology.

Students who want to be considered for an assistantship must submit the application by Feb.

Students are required to submit a grant proposal to an outside agency for extramural research and/or stipend support within six months of successfully passing the Candidacy Examination. Funding of the external grant application is not required for successful completion of the Ph.D. degree.

The scholarship is awarded annually to one meritorious graduate student in the Plant Pathology Graduate Program at the University of California, Riverside. Klotz Memorial fund in honor of Leo Klotz a former member in the department and a distinguished plant pathologist.
