GRE scores are optional for all applicants. If a student chooses to submit GRE scores, they will be considered as part of the application package. There is no minimum GRE or TOEFL score requirement. Please arrange to take their exam by a date that will guarantee that their scores will be forwarded to the University of Pennsylvania by the December 15th deadline.
TOEFL Exam scores are required for all international applicants. There is no minimum TOEFL score requirment. The TOEFL is not required if applicant are currently enrolled in or have already graduated from another graduate program in the United States.
The SAS Application Waiver must be requested and cannnot be guaranteed for international applicants.
Graduate Admissions
The minimum GPA for admission to the PhD program in Anthropology is 3.2.
The minimum GPA for admission to the MA program in Anthropology is 3.0.
Schomburg Fellowship applicants must submit a statement within the completed application by December 15.

Statement of Purpose Generally, successful applicants have a strong background in either a geographic, cultural region and/or a particular topical or theoretical interest in anthropology.
The department has no set GRE score minimum, but expects students to present strong scores for admission to both the MA and PhD programs in Anthropology.
Test of English as a Foreign Language Results
If their request for non-matriculated status is approved by the department then applicant may submit the online application. There is a $35 application fee that may be paid online using a credit card through the UB e-Pay system.
