College description: Biomedical engineering is the application of engineering tools for solving problems in biology and medicine. It is an engineering discipline that is practiced by professionals trained primarily as engineers, who specialize in medical and biological applications. The Biomedical Engineering should be of interest to students who wish to practice engineering or engage in research in an engineering specialization in medicine and biology. They specialize in biomedical engineering areas as diverse as biomechanics, bioinstrumentation, biomedical imaging and biophotonics, micro and nanotechnology, systems biology, biomaterials, cellular engineering, tissue engineering, neuroengineering, and rehabilitation and human performance.
Students who complete their BS degree in BME at UW-Madison, with an overall GPA of at least 3.0 or a GPA of 3.25 for the final 60 credits, are eligible to for the MS degree and can complete it in only 24-credits, which is intended primarily for students not planning to pursue a PhD.

There are no specific minimum requirements, but generally our students score in the top 75%tile or greater for the analytical and quantitative or physical sciences portions of the exams.
The BME department expects international students to report a TOEFL score. A TOEFL score of 625 or greater is required to be considered for admission to the graduate program.
Please visit the Graduate School Admission Requirements. Please note that if you take the TOEFL than once, we will consider your highest score.
The Biomedical Engineering Department has no deadline for but generally awards funding to applications who for Fall admission.
The later you the lower your chances are for admission and to obtain funding. Complete applications including ALL supportive documentation (GRE, TOEFL information, etc. ) must be received by the deadline date for evaluation for admission.
