Admissions Graduate Study Materials Science Engineering

College description: Industrialized society is currently engaged in a real-time sensitivity experiment with planet Earth. Working with both observed and model-simulated data, the CCRG investigates a range of topics designed to enable societies to make informed decisions their future. Research foci include: extreme weather events, hydrological change, near-term meteorological, societal, and public health impacts, and sustainable design solutions for urban environments. Environmental observations, numerical models, statistical analyses, and machine learning techniques.

The Northwestern University consider prior academic performance, research and other professional experience, GRE scores, and overall potential to successfully pursue graduate study in the university department. Experience and potential are evaluated largely through the letters of recommendation and the statement of purpose. Foreign students from non-English speaking countries must also take the Test of English as a Foreign Language exam or the International English Language Testing System exam.

The university cannot waive the application fee.

A financial statement is not necessary for the application process.

The MSE department does not require a writing sample separate from the Statement of Purpose. Submission of a resume or CV is optional.

All applications are evaluated the same way, as long as they reach us before the deadline.

The minimum is two, but applicant may submit three if applicant wish.

All international students whose degrees are not from institutions where the language of instruction is English must take the TOEFL or IELTS exam.

Applicants who will have earned a Bachelor's or Master's degree from a university where the language of instruction is English by the quarter of matriculation will receive a TOEFL waiver. No special action is needed; the university will grant the waiver based on the transcripts submitted with the application.

If applicant are taking the TOEFL or GRE be sure to include this number on their test form.

This includes having an official TOEFL score.

TOEFL must be taken no more than two years before the intended quarter of entry. However, their application will not be disqualified if their scores are a few months out of date.

The only minimum the university set is TOEFL, on which an international applicant must score 550 or higher on the paper-based test, 213 or higher on the computer-based test, 90 or higher on the internet-based test. There is no minimum requirement for GRE scores.

Unofficial copies of transcripts are acceptable for the application.
