College description: Requirements as represented in Degree Navigator are not available for this program.Students may elect to complete the requirements for a second major, in addition to the requirements for the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degree in neuroscience.The major objective of the M.S. program is to provide sufficient theoretical and practical training in neuroscience to allow students to obtain professional level positions in academic, industrial, or governmental institutions.Admission to graduate study in neuroscience is primarily to the doctoral program. Students are generally accepted for graduate study in neuroscience only if judged by a program committee to be qualified to complete the doctoral degree.Applicants with deficiencies in academic preparation may be admitted provisionally, with the requirement that they complete collateral science courses during the first year of study these collateral courses will not count toward the degree.Admission decisions are made by the Neuroscience Program Graduate Affairs Committee.Requirements for the Master of Science Degree in Neuroscience.A total of 30 credits is required for the degree under either Plan A or Plan B.Complete a minimum of 6 credits in Neuroscience 800 or 899. Plan A students must complete 4 credits of Neuroscience 899.Successful completion and defense of a thesis based on original research on an important problem in neuroscience in a seminar-based public forum.

There is no minimum GRE Score needed for admission. Submission of GRE scores is optional and not required for admission to the program.

GRE scores can be up to 5 years old, TOEFL scores may only be 2 years old.

Applicants from Puerto Rico do not need to submit TOEFL scores.

Michigan State University requires a TOEFL score for all international applicants. However, the department may waive the TOEFL if the applicant is competent in the English Language.

If the applicant comes from a country or political entity (e.g., Quebec) where English is not the official language, adequate proficiency in English to do graduate work, as evidenced by a TOEFL score of at least 90 on the iBT test, 570 on the paper-and-pencil test, or an IELTS Band score of at least 7 on a 9-point scale.

4. Sufficient undergraduate training to do graduate work in the given field.
