Examines the pathophysiology and oncology management of gastrointestinal, breast, brain, head and neck, and metastatic cancer. The content will include relevant anatomy, dosimetry treatment planning techniques and dose limitations.

This is the concurrent laboratory course for RMD 620 Dosimetry Treatment Planning I. In this course, students will learn and apply treatment planning techniques for gastrointestinal, breast, brain, head and neck, and metastatic cancer.

RMD 661 Medical Dosimetry Clinical Education I.

Clinical education experience in medical dosimetry in a university affiliated clinical education center is the focus of the course. The student will concentrate on beginning level application of core competencies in medical dosimetry practice.

Training modules in research topics guide the student during their project. This course must be repeated for a total of 6 credits.

This course will cover the principles governing production of radiation, radiation protection, interaction of radiation with matter, radiation dose distribution (photon and electron), and external beam dose calculations.

Examines the pathophysiology and oncology management of genitourinary, thoracic, gynecological, skin, and miscellaneous cancer. The content will include relevant anatomy, dosimetry treatment planning techniques and dose limitations.

This is the concurrent laboratory course for RMD 622 Dosimetry Treatment Planning II. In this course, students will learn and apply treatment planning techniques for genitourinary, thoracic, gynecological, skin, and miscellaneous cancers.

RMD 662 Medical Dosimetry Clinical Education II.

Clinical education experience in medical dosimetry in a university affiliated clinical education center is the focus of the course. The student will concentrate on refining medical dosimetry clinical reasoning and treatment planning skills in collaboration with health care team members.

This course will cover the radiation principles and advanced details of quality assurance, 3D conformal radiation therapy, image-guided radiation therapy, proton treatments, brachytherapy procedures and advanced techniques of intensity modulated radiation therapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, and stereotactic body radiation therapy treatment planning.

RMD 663 Medical Dosimetry Clinical Education III.

Clinical education experience in medical dosimetry in a university affiliated clinical education center is the focus of the course. The student will concentrate on advanced level skills and transitioning into medical dosimetry practice as a member of the profession.

RMD 670 Professional Issues in Medical Dosimetry.

Investigation of healthcare ethics, professional conduct, and psychologic aspects in oncology. Students also explore electronic medical records and charting, computer networking, treatment error corrections, quality improvement, advanced emerging technologies and legal issues. Preparation for the Medical Dosimetry Certification exam is conducted.

RMD 696 Continuation of Master Project or Thesis Research.

Continuation of work related to the master project or thesis phase of the graduate student program. Registration is required after all respective project or thesis credits are completed and the project or thesis is not completed. Offered every semester. Prerequisites: Completion of all required project or thesis credits and completion of the Responsible Conduct of Research Training within last three years.

The Molecular, Cellular, and Biomedical Sciences (MCBS) in the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture (COLSA) offers the professional M.S. in Molecular and Cellular Biotechnology (MCBT). This non-thesis degree program addresses the growing workforce and educational needs of the bioscience industries (including biotechnology, pharmaceutical, biomanufacturing, and medical device companies).

The program is founded on the existing academic rigor of the thesis-based graduate programs offered in MCBS and on the substantial innovative experiential learning opportunities enabled by existing biotechnology-relevant Centers: the University Instrumentation Center (UIC), the Center of Integrated Biomedical and Bioengineering Research (CIBBR), the NH Center for Multiscale Modeling and Manufacturing of Biomaterials (NH BioMade), and the Biomanufacturing Innovation Center (BIC). These resources will enable offering instrumentation training workshops in the following areas: genetic engineering of cells recombinant protein production and purification biological mass spectroscopy nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy cell imaging and phenotyping visualization of macromolecules.

Unlike a thesis-based M.S. program, students in the MCBT Program take core and elective courses in biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology of immediate relevance to working professionals. Our mission is to efficiently provide our students the specialized knowledge and skills needed to successfully enter or advance their careers in a range of bioscience industries. This M.S. program concludes with a training experience in a research lab or industrial setting that will help launch you onto the next stage of your career journey in the biotechnology and associated industries.

Accelerated master admission is designed for highly motivated and qualified UNH students seeking additional training to further their career goals as a researcher in the life sciences.

Admission to the Accelerated Master is highly competitive. Students wishing to pursue this option must have a grade point average greater than 3.2 at the time of application. Prior to the first semester of the senior year, the student must formally Graduate School and receive admission to the Accelerated Master MCBT Graduate Program.

Completion of the M.S in MCBT requires at least 30 graduate credits in approved courses, including Core Curriculum courses, Elective courses, Workshops, and the custom-designed Capstone experience.

Students are required to complete the Core Curriculum courses (chosen based on market analysis and additional industry input) to establish graduate-level skill competencies in the areas of protein biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology. Core requirements may be waived in those instances where the Admissions Committee ascertains that the student already possesses the knowledge and skills provided through these Core Curriculum courses.

Typically, students will complete the core curriculum courses prior to enrolling in the advanced offerings.

Students will be encouraged to select elective courses and a capstone experience that encourage specialization (e.g., protein biochemistry, genetic engineering, cell imaging and phenotyping). In addition to approved elective courses, other courses may be incorporated into the curriculum plan to provide breath of training. These courses offered by other academic programs include: bioengineering, biomanufacturing, entrepreneurship and business management, and bioregulatory science (including administrative law, intellectual property, and licensing).

For students in the one-year track, we recommend students work no than 10 hours per week and no than 15 hours per week. The one-year M.S. in Biomedical Sciences is a full-time program and designed to be academically intense, in a manner similar to medical and dental schools. In addition, students need to make their externship and volunteer responsibilities a priority.

It is important to have realistic expectations. This program was built to provide a strong direction, structure and portfolio enhancement to help students pursue their goals. We cannot guarantee admission or employment after graduation.

Our program begins the day after Memorial Day and finishes the last day of April the following year. While we cannot guarantee admittance to professional schools for participants in this program, 84% of our graduates from 2013-2021 who applied to professional schools were accepted during the program or within one year of graduation. We are also very proud that to date 100% of our graduates have also been successful in medical or dental school.
