One Year Online Masters in Operations Management and Supervision

This course provides graduate-level instruction regarding the concepts and analytic methods that are useful in understanding the management of a firm operations. Special emphasis will be placed on familiarizing the student with the problems and issues confronting operations managers, and providing the student with language, concepts, insights and tools to deal with these issues in order to gain competitive advantage through operations. Because the course deals with the management of processes, it applies to both for-profit and non-profit organizations, to both service and manufacturing organizations, and to virtually any functional area or industry. Operations Management is decision making involving the design, planning, and control of the many factors that affect operations. As business has become competitive, the role of operations in firms has generally been elevated and now occupies an important strategic role in most firms.

After reading the Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course .

Key topics are addressed within each chapter. The student will select a key topic to research and discuss. The student may choose the same topic as a peer, but the topics must be addressed from different vantage points (perspectives). Each thread must be at least 700 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. Assertions must be supported with at least 5 scholarly resources.

The Operations Management course covers the design, planning, execution, control, and improvement of operational systems in organizations with a special focus on the strategic role of the operational function in helping the organization achieve its mission.

With the Online Master of Science in Operations Management program, students can study with industry experts and professors to learn relevant skills they can apply immediately. How operations functions are handled ensures whether or not that a company runs smoothly and is able to achieve its goals. In MNGT 6501 Operations Management, you will discover analytical techniques, processes, and approaches used to solve, prevent and anticipate problems within an organization. You will focus on issues such as continuous quality improvement to both control costs and improve products services, and the role the customer plays in any business.

In this course, you will also focus on human resources strategies identify major issues in job design and inventory management. You will learn effective planning strategies as well as the application of Just-In-Time (JIT) and lean operations principles as you see how documenting processes and analyzing them can reduce waste and improve productivity.

While examining the principles of project management, you will learn related forecasting techniques and methods as well as the concepts of regression analysis and the coefficient of correlation. You will focus on chain management as it applies to e-commerce and gain insight into how quality management affects social responsibility and product sustainability. You will then look at the seven tools employed in Total Quality Management.
