The Master's in Telecommunications Program (ENTS) offers students a unique opportunity to engage in cross-disciplinary coursework in telecommunications. It combines rigorous technical education with invaluable business insight and entrepreneurial skills. The program is run jointly by the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland and offers a Master of Science in Telecommunications degree. The program may be pursued either full-time or part-time. Most courses are scheduled in the evening to suit working professionals, while some courses additionally offer daytime sections.
Entering students typically hold a bachelor’s degree in a technical field (engineering, computer science, etc.). Applicants must also submit a personal statement and three letters of recommendation. International applicants will also need to show a proof of English proficiency by taking the TOEFL or the IELTS exam and report their scores.
Once admitted, students undertake a program of study including 30-credits of course work (typically consisting of 10 three-credit courses) and a scholarly paper.

Applicants having degrees in other fields will be considered for admission on an individual basis. These students may make up their deficiencies by completing a bridge program. The curriculum for the MS in Telecommunications requires a basic knowledge of computer fundamentals such as programming, data structures, computer architecture, signals and systems, and basic communication systems. Credit for the bridge courses do not count toward the degree. Successful completion of the preparatory courses with a 3.0 average or better average grade is a necessary condition for transfer to regular status. The bridge courses are selected from the following list depending on individual background.
Candidates must complete a minimum of 30 credit hours of course work, with a minimum overall average of 3.0. In addition, a minimum 3.0 average is required in the 4 core courses, as indicated below. Students with an exceptionally strong telecommunications background may be allowed to replace required courses with advanced electives. Permission of the graduate advisor of this program is required. Any course not listed here must be approved by the Graduate Advisor.
