Practical experience is an important part of the program with a minimum of 100 hours of field work required as well as an internship of 15-20 hours a week for two semesters. Most students do the internship in their second year of courses.

Classes are held in the afternoons and evenings to make the program convenient for students who are working professionals.

Our program is accredited by the Master in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council (MPCAC) for the period of August 2014 through August 2024 (currently under review for reaccreditation).

Students are sought who will both appreciate and embrace the scientific and empirical underpinnings of the counseling field and work to apply them in culturally appropriate ways. The following competency areas adapted from the Masters in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council (MPCAC 2024) are the guiding policy for our CHS training program and serve as the basis for evaluation of student professional progress and readiness for practicum, internship, and professional practice:.

Neuroscientific, physical, and biological foundations of human development and wellness .

Ecological, contextual, multicultural, social justice foundations of human development .

Total Credits for Proposed Program are 60, consistent with MPCAC Accreditation recommendations and PA Licensure Standard.

Optional Practical Training (OPT) lets eligible F-1 students work in their field of study in the United States for 12 to 36 months after completing their program. Most students studying on F-1 visas become eligible for 12 months of Optional Practical Training (OPT) off-campus work authorization. Thus, students with an F-1 visa in our program may be eligible for the STEM OPT extension, which allows for up to a total of 36 months of Optional Practical Training off-campus work authorization.

The online master of arts in education and human development in interdisciplinary secondary transition services prepares a student to be a change agent in teaching, leadership, and support roles. Students learn to prepare youth with disabilities and at-risk youth to make successful transitions through high school to post-secondary education, employment, and independent adulthood.

This nationally-recognized program provides critical knowledge and experience in the ever-emerging field of secondary transition based on legislative requirements, research, and evidence-based practices. With a strong social justice focus, students are prepared to effectively lead quality transition programs and services for all youth with disabilities in various settings.

Graduates of DCDT-accredited programs are eligible for certification as a DCDT transition specialist.
