Course Description | As a student in the on-campus TSS Ph.D. program, students will explore and rethink the intersections of curriculum, teaching, and teacher education with society and politics in an increasingly diverse world. Students, along with their cohort, will be prepared to disrupt the status quo and challenge issues of equity in education through transformational learning. | The Department of Curriculum & Instruction offers two pathways for the master’s degree. A master of science with secondary teacher certification is offered as an M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction with named options in Secondary English, Social Studies, Mathematics, and Science. Additionally, the department offers a Research Master’s program, with a focus on advanced work in education. In both programs, master's degree students should expect both an atmosphere of intellectual inquiry and the serious academic standards befitting a graduate research program in curriculum and instruction. | The Ph.D. Program in the Teaching and Learning prepares individuals to serve as educational leaders, researchers, designers and teacher educators who work in a variety of contexts, including colleges and universities, public school systems, and nonprofit organizations. Understanding of (a) the cultural contexts and policy settings that impact learning (b) the theoretical foundations and practice of rigorous empirical research (c) and design, implement and test transformative learning environments that promote deep learning. A focus on diversity and equity runs through foundational courses, area seminars, research practica, and opportunities for community engagement. Provide scores from the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) taken within the past five years. |
