Course Description | The VT Nuclear Engineering Program offers two Graduate Certificates: Certificate in Nuclear Engineering and Certificate in Nuclear Science Technology and Policy (NSTP). This Certificate is a joint program among the Science and Technology in Society, the School of Public and International Affairs, and the Nuclear Engineering Program. Students who have either at least a BS in a technical or policy related discipline are encouraged to enroll in this program. The Nuclear Science, Technology, and Policy (NSTP) Graduate Certificate integrates policy and management with nuclear science and technology to prepare students from diverse educational backgrounds for careers managing and leading nuclear policy organizations across a spectrum of activity in safety, security, safeguards, and non-proliferation. | We encourage all accepted students who come to us from a background other than nuclear engineering to complete the Fundamentals of Nuclear Engineering course early on in your studies. Integration of Nuclear Plans with the Reactor Core. Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow in Nuclear Power Plants. | Courses cover such topics as nuclear power, radioactivity, chain reaction physics, nuclear reactor safety, power plant design and operation, and case studies of nuclear accidents. Students with a BS degree in an engineering and science discipline are eligible for admission to the program. See Graduate Admissions for admissions information. The Graduate Certificate in Nuclear Science and Engineering is overseen by the program review committee of representatives from engineering and the sciences. |
